What does the policy do?

Our specialist Sports Equipment Insurance / Sports Clothing & Personal Effect Insurance policy covers all of your personally owned sports & activity equipment against loss damage and theft, anywhere in world. (Including items belonging to partner / children). It automatically covers high-risk and extreme sports equipment too.

This even extends to things such as GoPro’s and sports related GPS devices.

What is covered?

This policy covers ALL your sporting and activity equipment, clothing and accessories (personal effects) to the total value you choose.
You can choose to cover JUST your sports equipment, or JUST your clothing & accessories, or you can take out cover for both.

NOTE: This policy does not cover motorised vehicles or items that are mechanically propelled by engines powered by fuel.

Example:
You have a mountain bike valued at £3000 – therefore you would take out £3000 of Equipment Cover.
You also have a full face helmet, body armour and a Go-Pro worth around £1000 so you would take out an additional £1000 of Clothing & Accessories Cover.

This policy is extremely flexible as you are not required to list individual items or their values, but it is important that you know what is classed as equipment and what is classed as clothing & accessories.

Examples of equipment:
Bikes / Guns / Canoes
Windsurfers / Skiis / Snowboards
Mountaineering Gear / Camping Gear
Horse equipment / Hang Gliders etc.

Example of clothing & accessories (personal effects):
GoPros
Sports Related Sat Navs
Protective Sports Clothing
Helmets
Body Armour etc.

Your cover will include: Any Equipment, clothing and personal effects that you own, or for which you are legally responsible for, and which is/are intended to be used whilst taking part in its related sport or activity.

Important note:
Go-Pro cameras will be covered as their primary purpose is to be used while taking part in a sport/leisure activity. They are designed and built for this and can withstand more damage than a regular camera.
GPS based devices, like handle bar mounted devices used for monitoring distance/calories burnt/performance/mapping etc. would be covered as again there are designed for this intended use.
A Fitbit would be covered as it is designed and intended to be used whilst participating in a sporting or leisure activity.

Devices such as an Apple watch or mobile phones would not be covered, as their primary use or design is not intended to be solely used for these activities.
A mobile phone’s primary use by design is intended for making calls/texts/Internet, and any sports or leisure applications that can be installed are secondary to it’s primary intended function.

Other hand help cameras/digital SLR cameras/movie cameras etc. would not be covered as unlike Go-Pros, their stability and durability are not designed to be used in sport or leisure activities as a primary function.

Is my gear covered whilst talking part in a competition?

Yes it will be, as long as the equipment is not being used for any trade business or profession, including being used by a professional sports person.

Will my gear still be covered when I’m abroad?

Yes, your gear will be covered anywhere in the world.

Are there any policy discounts?

There are two ways to pay for your policy.

You can either choose to pay the full price for your cover on a monthly basis, or get a discount of 20% when you pay for all 12 months in one annual lump sum.

Does my cover start straight away?

Yes. Acceptance is guaranteed and so your gear will be covered immediately.

Are claims settled on a new for old basis?

BASIS OF CLAIM SETTLEMENT
Should the items be under 12 months old and were purchased from new by you, subject to the amount shown on the policy schedule representing the full value, claims will be settled on the basis of the full replacement cost without deduction for wear and tear or depreciation.

Claims for items over 12 monthsold will be settled on the basis of the market value of the same or equivalent brand new item at the time of the Loss, Theft or Accidental Damage, taking into account wear and tear and depreciation. This amount of depreciation will be calculated by applying a 10% reduction on the market value, for every year of the items age, up to a maximum age of seven years (70%).

Any items other than Clothing over 7 years old will be assessed individually, based on second-hand market values (for items of similar age and specification) but in any event the maximum we will pay is 20% of the cost of an equivalent new item.

Do I need to list any items over a certain value?

No. So long as you are happy that the total value of the cover that you take out will be sufficient to cover all the items you want to insure, you do not need to specify any items or their value.

How many times can I make a claim?

You can claim as many times as you need, subject to the following;

You are simply not covered for the first £50 of each and every claim.

Does this policy cover professional sports people’s gear?

No. This policy does not cover any gear that is used for any trade, business or profession.

How long does this policy cover my gear for?

Your gear will be covered for a period of 12 months from when you take out the policy. (Subject to all due premiums being paid)
